The next departure for public
transport of the future is leaving now!
(Thanks for your help.)
The Gothenburg region is growing. Growth means the opportunity to develop the metropolitan area and the region we want, but it also means a major demand for investment, in infrastructure for example. It is calculated that in 2035 there will be 200,000 more residents of Gothenburg, Mölndal and Partille than today, and 100,000 more people are expected to be working in the region. The demand for simple and reliable public transport will increase substantially. It is needed to link the region, reduce journey times and make it easy for everyone to take advantage of what the city can offer and to meet other residents.
So that the public transport does not tie itself in knots as the city expands, the Västra Götaland region, Västtrafik, City of Gothenburg, Mölndal City and Partille Municipality have worked together to develop a common development plan for the city transport core network. (The core network is the public transport system that, at present, consists of tram and core bus lines, express buses and commuter trains.)
One important question in the development plan concerns how to reduce the journey times between different places in the city and make it easier to travel between city neighbourhoods. In addition to analyses and studies of travellers and the business environment, the public have also been invited to participate in the process. Out of that we have produced a number of quality objectives and proposals for solutions. We now present a concrete proposal regarding the future development of the core network.
Valuable opinions about the public transport of the future
We carried out a broad public consultation called Next Stop 2035, where the public were invited to have their say, before the concrete proposals were produced. The questions were about what is important to you as a traveller, what you expect of the public transport of the future and what it should look like where you live. Huge thanks to those that took the opportunity to take part and shape the public transport of the future!
Next Stop 2035 is a public consultation project run by Västra Götaland region, City of Gothenburg, Mölndal City and Partille Municipal Council.
